Professor Ravindran Kanesvaran is Chair of the Division of Medical Oncology and a Senior Consultant at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), as well as Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. He is also Co-Director of the Singapore Translational Cancer Consortium (STCC) and Co-Director of the newly formed Research Institute for Cancer Prevention , Screening and Early Detection ( RISE). Professor Kanesvaran completed his medical oncology training at NCCS before undertaking fellowships in genitourinary and geriatric oncology at the Duke Cancer Institute,USA. He has contributed extensively to postgraduate medical education and previously served as Program Director of the Medical Oncology Senior Residency Program. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and The Lancet Oncology, and has contributed textbook chapters in geriatric and urologic oncology. He is a Fellow of ESMO—the first Asian recipient of this distinction—which recognises sustained and significant contributions to the Society. Professor Kanesvaran is a former President of both the Singapore Society of Oncology and the Singapore Geriatric Oncology Society. He has served in several leadership roles within ESMO Council, and the Society’s faculties in geriatric and genitourinary oncology. Within the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG), he has served as President—the first Asian President in the organisation’s 20-year history—as well as a member of its Board of Governance. He was named SIOG National Representative of the Year in 2014. His other distinctions include the SingHealth Excellent Service Quality Awards in 2018 (Silver), 2019 (Gold), and 2022 (STAR); the SingHealth GCEO Outstanding Clinician Award in 2021; and SingHealth Residency Outstanding Faculty Awards in 2014 and 2022. In 2024, he was appointed Duke-NUS Distinguished Professor in Geriatric Oncology. In recognition of his contributions to public service and healthcare, he was awarded the National Day Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2026.
