Muthu Muthiah

Muthu Muthiah is Chief Investment Officer of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he is responsible for stewardship of the organization’s approximately $11 billion investment program. He leads asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection, liquidity planning, and risk management across its short- and long-term investment pools. Working closely with senior leadership and governance bodies, he oversees the investment team, processes, and operating model.

Over the course of his career, Muthiah has worked across a wide range of institutional investors, including public pensions, endowments, foundations, healthcare systems, and outsourced CIO platforms. He has built investment programs, designed governance frameworks, and developed investment operating models for organizations with differing missions, liquidity needs, and time horizons. His experience spans global public and private markets and reflects a consistent focus on helping institutions translate long-term objectives into durable portfolio structures.

Before joining Children’s, Muthiah was the founding Chief Investment Officer of Group Health Foundation, where he built the investment office from inception, including its team, processes, governance structure, operating infrastructure, and investment portfolio. Earlier in his career, he held senior investment roles at Emory Investment Management, Covariance Capital Management, Spider Management Company, and the Florida State Board of Administration, with responsibilities spanning private equity, venture capital, real assets, public markets, and asset allocation.

Muthiah serves on the boards of Inatai Foundation and Assets Under Movement, formerly known as the Amalgamated Bank Foundation. He also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. He holds an MBA in Finance from Rollins College and a bachelor’s degree from Mangalore University.
