Mary Ng

The Honourable Mary Ng, P.C., is a globally respected voice on international trade, inclusive economic growth and business leadership. From 2018 to 2025, she served as Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Small Business and Economic Development—becoming the country’s longest-serving Trade Minister. Mary led Canada’s trade agenda at the highest levels. As a principal architect of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, she deepened trade and investment ties across the Asia-Pacific and expanded Canada’s engagement with ASEAN and India. She led Canada’s engagement in the Canada-ASEAN FTA negotiations and chaired the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Commission in 2024, guiding the UK’s accession to the partnership. Mary led key relationships with the USA and Mexico under CUSMA/USMCA, with the E.U. through CETA, and expanded partnerships across Africa, CARICOM, and South America. During her tenure, she oversaw negotiations of major trade agreements, including the Canada–Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, the Canada–UK Trade Agreement (post-Brexit), a modernized Canada–Ukraine FTA, and the Canada–Ecuador FTA. Mary represented Canada at the G7, G20, WTO, APEC, OECD and other multilateral forums – making her a truly global leader, while leading high-level trade missions that helped Canadian businesses expand internationally. She also advanced inclusive economic growth including by championing Canada’s first Women Entrepreneurship Strategy. Mary now serves as a strategic advisor to International businesses.
