Hiroaki Kitano Ph.D. is Senior Executive Vice President and CTO of Sony Group Corporation as well as President and CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc. and CEO of Sony AI Inc. Additionally, Dr. Kitano serves as President of The Systems Biology Institute and is a professor at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University. He is a Founding President of the RoboCup Federation, former President of International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) (2009-2011), and a past member of the AI & Robotics Council (2016-2018) and Quantum Computing Council (2019-2020) of The World Economic Forum. He has received numerous awards including the Computers and Thought Award from the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 1993, Prix Ars Electronica 2000, Design Award 2001 from the Japan Inter-Design Forum, and Nature Award for Creative Mentoring in Science (Mid Carrier) in 2009, as well as being an invited artist for Biennale di Venezia 2000 and Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2001. A series of grand challenge, or Moonshot project, has been launched under his leadership including RoboCup and the Nobel Turing Challenge. He is currently a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). Kitano's primary expertise is in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, systems biology, and scientific discovery.
