The Milken–Motsepe Innovation Prize program is a series of multiyear, multimillion-dollar innovation competitions for technological solutions that accelerate progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
There are two innovation competitions in the program so far. The Milken–Motsepe Prize in AgriTech focuses on SDGs 1 and 2 (no poverty and zero hunger) launched in April 2021. This is a global competition for solutions to increase economic value for farmers. Following field testing in 16 countries across Africa, the $1 million grand prize and runner-up prizes were announced at the 2023 Milken Institute Global Conference in May.
Registration for the second competition, the Milken–Motsepe Prize in Green Energy, closed in March 2023. This competition aims to expand access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity in Africa as an essential factor in achieving long-term economic growth and shared prosperity. The competition advances progress toward SDG 7 (ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all).
Both prizes have $1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and $1 million in additional prizes.
