U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) represents Colorado's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and serves as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Oversight and Investigations panel. While in Congress, DeGette has become a leading voice on health care policy. She is the author of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act that helped overturn the federal government's restrictions on the use of embryonic stem cells for research. DeGette played a key role in drafting the Affordable Care Act and now, as chair of the Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations panel, she is leading the charge to oversee the federal government's response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. DeGette is often best known as the author of the 21st Century Cures Act, landmark legislation that modernized how our nation researches and develops new breakthrough medical treatments. The 21st Century Cures Act has been widely credited for helping to clear the way for the discovery of countless new cures and treatments for some of the world's most stubborn diseases.
