Vice President, Financial Security, AARP
Gary Koenig

Gary Koenig is Vice President of Financial Security in the AARP Public Policy Institute, where he leads a team working on economic and consumer issues important to helping people achieve and maintain financial security as they age. Since 2016, he also has directed the development of AARP’s savings and financial planning strategy, the goal of which is to drive better financial health by influencing public policy, private industry, and personal behavior. That strategy reflects the understanding that economic security in old age is influenced by financial stability during one’s working years. Koenig’s research has primarily focused on Social Security, retirement savings, the economic well-being of older Americans, and innovative approaches to increasing lifetime income. Recently, he has helped lead the continued development of AARP Money Map™, an online platform to help users improve their financial health by empowering them to take control of their finances through a unified experience of tools, resources, and opportunities to learn more about effectively managing their money. Prior to joining AARP in 2008, Koenig was an economist for the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, specializing in employer-provided pensions and retirement plans.
