America250: Reinvigorating the American Dream through Sport, Celebration, and Education

-

Over the next several years, the United States will take part in at least four major events that could help shape the future of the nation and the world: the 250th Anniversary of the United States, the World Cup, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the opening of the Center for Advancing the American Dream. Each of these moments offers a unique opportunity to generate excitement on their own, but together, they represent a historic confluence of events that can reinvigorate the American spirit, engage communities across the country, revitalize interest in our shared history among younger generations, and bring to life the long-held belief that out of many, we are one. Sports represent the purest form of meritocracy, where natural talent and hard work converge to produce excellence, which is perhaps why sports have long transcended our domestic and international divides. And the celebration of our founding—and our founding ideals—offers us an important time of reflection in the face of an uncertain future. Together, these events provide the United States with a unique diplomatic opportunity to demonstrate to each of us and to the rest of the world what our nation stands for as it ushers in the next 250 years of American democracy.
