Paulo Guedes is the Minister of Economy, Brazil. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago. He was a professor at PUC-RJ, Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA). Guedes is the founder of Banco Pactual, Abril Educação, Faculdades Ibmec and Instituto Millenium. He was a member of boards of directors of large companies. Guedes was also a columnist for the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo and for the magazines Exame and Época.
