Brian  Sack

Brian Sack is a managing director of D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P., Director of Global Economics for the D. E. Shaw group, and a member of the firm's Discretionary Macro trading unit. Prior to joining the D. E. Shaw group in 2013, Dr. Sack was an executive vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (the ‘New York Fed’) from mid-2009 until early-2013. During that tenure, he served as the head of the New York Fed's Markets Group and the manager of the System Open Market Account, the portfolio of assets held by the Federal Reserve System. In that capacity, Dr. Sack implemented the monetary policy decisions of the Federal Open Market Committee, managed the SOMA's domestic and international portfolios, and briefed the FOMC on financial market developments. Dr. Sack's academic research has been published in leading journals in the fields of economics and finance. He is a member of the Panel of Economic Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office and the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of Treasury. Dr. Sack earned his B.A. in mathematics and economics from the University of Vermont and a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
