Matthew Lim

Matthew Lim is the Head of the Biosecurity and Health Security Protection Unit at WHO. The BSP unit focuses on three principal areas of work: laboratory biosecurity and biosafety; the interface of the health and security sectors, including in mitigating accidental or deliberate threats to public health; and emerging technological and scientific health security risks, including cybersecurity and disinformation. Previously, Dr. Lim worked extensively in international health and global health diplomacy on health security, the International Health Regulations, pandemic preparedness, countering biological weapons, HIV/AIDS and other emerging infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. He has served as the Deputy Health Attaché/Health Advisor within the U.S. Mission to the United Nations Organization in Geneva, Switzerland; a Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs in the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.; a delegate to the Biological Weapons Convention, and the Program Manager at the DOD HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (PEPFAR). He has a Medical Degree from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor's Degree from Stanford University.
