Community Colleges

Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Chancellor of California Community Colleges interviewed by Paul Irving, Chairman, Milken Institute Center for the Future of Aging.

There is an increased need for lifelong learning opportunities and re-skilling programs, especially as our society ages and technology changes. Community Colleges are accessible places of higher education where older adults can re-educate and re-skill. Our new economy and job market are constantly shifting and older adults are a vital human capital resource. Older adults are building businesses and planning to work beyond traditional retirement age for financial reasons and a desire for purposeful engagement. Age integration and intergenerational teams represent a strategic opportunity to capitalize on complementary talents. Lifelong learning and re-skilling programs can enhance productivity across the life course and Eloy Ortiz Oakley sees this first hand at California Community Colleges.
