February of this year saw the Ukraine war enter a second year of hostilities. After repelling Russia’s initial invasion and its attempt to capture Kyiv, Ukraine’s army pushed Russian forces back. Ukraine’s resistance has been aided by Western arms and popular support for its future as a European state by publics in both America and across Europe, even in the face of much higher energy prices, cost of living increases, and a global food shortage. Could Ukraine be the start of an enduring unity of purpose in EU foreign policy? What will reconstruction efforts look like? And what does this mean for Ukraine in its fight to retake territory captured by Russia both during the war and earlier in Crimea? What are prospects of Ukraine realizing its ultimate hope to become, when the sound of the guns dies down, a European country?
