Atherton Mutombwera is the Founder and CEO of Hutano Diagnostics Ltd. Hutano Diagnostics Ltd is a start-up developing a diagnostic and surveillance platform for diseases caused by Emerging and Dangerous Pathogens which cause recurring epidemics in the African Region. The company is currently developing an Ebola diagnostic and surveillance platform. Hutano Diagnostics won the 2019 GE European Whatman Diagnostics Competition and is collaborating with GE Healthcare. Atherton has experience in healthcare provision, nanobiotechnology research and business. He was awarded the Weidenfeld Hoffman Trust Leader of the Year (2019-2020) for exemplary leadership in the fields of public health, entrepreneurship and innovation. Atherton completed an MBA at the University of Oxford as a Louis Dreyfus-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Saïd Scholar. He holds an MSc in Nanoscience (Nanobiomedicine) for which he was awarded the Coursework Masters Award in the Science, Engineering and Technology fields by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2016 for his research developing of a rapid diagnostic device for Ebola. Atherton has an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.
