Workshop: Interpersonal Effectiveness in Everyday Life

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a research-based therapy modality originally developed to help people with chronically suicidal behavior. One part of this treatment that has high relevance for everyone are DBT skills, which are practical skills for calming your mind, getting through tough situations, regulating emotions, and, developing healthy relationships. In this intimate, highly interactive workshop, Dr. Carla Chugani, a DBT researcher and practitioner, will demonstrate how to apply a DBT skill called DEAR MAN (an acronym for Describe, Express, Assert, Reinforce, be Mindful, Appear confident, Negotiate). This practical, easy to learn skill can help with everything from negotiating a raise to resolving conflict with a friend. Over time, DEAR MAN can make approaching hard conversations easier and more successful. In partnership with EMBRACE Pittsburgh.
