Terry Montgomery

Advisory Board Member, Dementia Action Alliance; Advocate Living with Dementia
Terry Montgomery

Terry left the work force in 2015 after being diagnosed with young on-set Alzheimer's at the age of 58.  After being diagnosed, she resigned from a 38 year versatile career that included customer service, accounting, project management, sales, entrepreneurship, and human services.  The following year Terry was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She didn't focus on ‘Why me;’ instead she said, ‘Why not me?’.  Terry has become a committed dementia advocate, speaker, writer, and served on the Alzheimer's Association's National Early Stage Advisor (2018-2019).  She joined DAA's Advisory Board in 2020 because she feels DAA is instrumental in making sure those living with dementia are valued and heard. Terry focuses on enjoying life, family and changing the stigma and biased views on how others view living with dementia.  ‘My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.’  -- Maya Angelou
