Debra Houry

Dr. Debra Houry is the Director of CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control--also called the Injury Center. Injuries are the leading cause of death for Americans age 1 to 44. Under Dr. Houry's leadership, the Injury Center is addressing three urgent and related priority public health issues: adverse childhood experiences, overdose, and suicide, among other injury and violence prevention efforts. Before joining CDC, Dr. Houry was on the faculty at the Emory University School of Medicine and Emory's Rollins School of Public Health. She also has years of experience working as an emergency department doctor at Emory University and Grady Memorial hospitals in Atlanta. This past year she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
