Irene is Deputy manager for Portfolio Management at the Central Bank of Kenya. As a member of the portfolio management team, she ensures the functions of portfolio management are carried out efficiently and effectively. She invests the Central Bank of Kenya’s forex reserves in fixed income instruments and products that are aligned to the forex reserves management objectives of the bank and ensures they comply with the law, policy and guidelines. Irene also manages a money market portfolio for the Central Bank, making deposit placements and foreign exchange transactions to meet government payment obligations. Prior to this role, Irene held the responsibility of managing the domestic foreign exchange market and was instrumental in discharging oversight over the domestic interbank market that translated into a stable foreign exchange currency.


Irene has built her career as a portfolio manager at the Central Bank of Kenya for the last 15 years, prior to which she worked as an accountant.

Irene holds a bachelor of commerce degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Finance. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Public Accountants in Kenya. Irene is an alumna of the IFC-Milken Institute Capital Markets Program at George Washington University (class of Fall 2018), during which she obtained a graduate certificate in capital markets and undertook a work placement with Barings LLC.
