Leena Bhutta

Chief Investment Officer, Doris Duke Foundation

Leena Bhutta is the chief investment officer of the Doris Duke Foundation, where she leads an internal investment team responsible for managing the foundation’s endowment. This endowment fully supports the foundation’s operating budget, helping to create a more creative, equitable, and sustainable future. She also serves on the foundation-wide executive leadership team, which spans three locations and more than a hundred employees.

Bhutta began her career in technology investment banking at Goldman Sachs before transitioning to global equity research at Joho Capital, a multibillion-dollar global hedge fund. Following several years as a direct investor, she shifted her focus to endowment investing and mission-driven capital, establishing the investment program for the Hollyhock Foundation, a private foundation created by the founders of Joho Capital.

Bhutta also serves on the board of directors of TIFF Investment Management, the investment committee for the Robertson Foundation, and the National Advisory Board for the Stanford University Haas Center for Public Service.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Wellesley College and a master of business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
