Roger Chung

A social epidemiologist by training, Dr Roger Chung’s research uses the lens of biomedical ethics and justice to examine the social determinants of health and health inequalities. He is currently examining social determinants such as poverty, deprivation, socioeconomic disadvantage, environmental and housing factors, and migrant status. He is also particularly interested in the health of the vulnerable populations, including migrant workers and rare disease patients. Additionally, He is conducting research on aging‐related issues, such as multimorbidity and long‐term/end‐of‐life care. Collectively, the purpose of his research is to inform health services and public policy, domestically and beyond. His work can be seen in numerous top international peer-reviewed journals. At the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Chung is currently an Associate Professor of School of Public Health and Primary Care, Co-Director of the Centre for Bioethics, and Associate Director of the Institute of Health Equity. Moreover, as the Vice Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Public Health Steering Committee with 17 member universities around the world, he is spearheading and coordinating the network’s public health research direction. He was also elected as the National Academy of Medicine International Health Policy Fellow ’19-21 to study social determinants of healthy longevity as well as to serve as a consultant of the consensus study Advancing Pandemic and Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Preparedness and Response.
