Addressing Bipolar Disorder
Uncovering Ways Philanthropy Can Advance Bipolar Research

Overview

More than 2 million Americans and 45 million people worldwide live with bipolar disorder. They endure severe, repeated manic and depressive episodes that make it difficult to function. The economic burden of bipolar disorder is estimated to be approximately $200 billion annually in the US alone.

Even though the condition affects so many and has a significant impact on productivity, research is severely underfunded. The Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy has been working alongside donors to unlock the barriers that have stifled progress for far too long.
