Megan B. Miller, PhD

Megan B. Miller, PhD, is a socially minded neuroscientist with a passion for brain health advocacy and strategic planning. Miller served as an associate director with MI Philanthropy from 2022 to 2023, advising philanthropists on ways to make transformative investments in health sciences and systems. Prior to her role at the Institute, Miller was the director of science and philanthropic policy at I AM ALS, a patient-centered ALS advocacy organization, where she led and expanded the organization’s engagement with the research system and coordinated rapid progress on a high-impact legislative agenda. She also served as a program officer and strategic advisor for research at the US Agency for International Development, where she oversaw global research collaborations and facilitated partnerships between the scientific community and non-academic stakeholders. A neurobiologist by training, Miller spent nearly a decade studying the cell and molecular mechanisms of neurotransmission, neurodegeneration, and addiction before pursuing a career at the intersection of science and society. Miller holds a BS in biology and microbiology from The Ohio State University and a PhD in biomedical sciences from the University of Connecticut. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine as well as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship.
