Approximately 40 percent of the US population lives in coastal communities that produce $9.5 trillion in goods and services annually, employing more than 58 million people. If sea levels continue rising and weather events become more severe, more than $1 trillion in commercial and residential properties in these essential coastal regions, including South Florida, will be vulnerable to chronic tidal flooding. Risk mitigation is urgently needed, but the path towards resilience is unclear and projected costs staggering. During this session, stakeholders from across sectors will discuss innovative solutions, including nature-based and hard infrastructure projects, and how to fund such large-scale initiatives.
