Venture capital (VC) investments are usually volatile and cyclic. They occur in boom-and-bust cycles, often following the economy. However, the economic recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic had little effect on either the size or volume of VC investments. Instead, the pandemic accelerated trends that investors were already betting on. Investment is increasing in businesses with ESG-aligned business models, such as electric vehicles and FoodTech. Additionally, markets are witnessing rising VC fervor in the blockchain and cryptocurrency sector resulting from heightened industry readiness, from both technical and ideological perspectives. The result of these trends has been record-high funding rounds and a global surge in companies achieving unicorn status. Will the continuation of this growth be sustainable? Are companies overvalued? What does the growth in deal sizes mean for investors and entrepreneurs? Join a discussion of recent and coming changes across the VC landscape.
