As people are becoming more aware of making healthy choices toward a fulfilling life, the link between wellness and sustainability is becoming more apparent, particularly amid COVID-19. Sustainability has traditionally been seen through the lens of environmental health issues, such as air pollution, clean drinking water, conservation of indigenous habitats, and wildlife. However, it is evident that access to sustainable food and beverage, and green transportation, for example, are key for healthier lifestyles, and thus the two areas should not be seen as separate but rather intertwined. The spread of COVID-19 virus has been a wakeup call for the world, to remind us that individual actions can have staggering consequences on the collective. Bernie Sanders recently said, "We are only as safe as the least insured person in America" I'd like to expand on this by saying, we are only as safe as the least insured person in the world. This is the painful lesson we are being reminded of through COVID-19. If history has taught us anything, we know that COVID-19 will eventually pass. Scientists across the world are working in collaboration like never before to eradicate this disease. The question is, what comes next? What have we learned on an individual and collective level? How can we ensure that mistakes from our past are not repeated in what many believe will be the birth of a new world, post-COVID-19? If we can learn to value ourselves more, care more about the quality of food we are putting into our bodies, toxins we knowingly or unknowingly ingest, hours we sleep; if we demand more for ourselves and for our children, might we have the power to affect significant global and planetary change? COVID-19 has taught us that what we do to ourselves, we do to each other. Discussions will sit at the intersection of wellness and sustainability. Experts and spiritual leaders will look at the effects that industry and globalization have had on humanity and the environment and will explore how we can seriously move toward a more sustainable and inclusive future, and identify actions we can take both on a collective and individual level to determine the direction of humanity's evolution.
