Kevin McCarthy is a U.S. congressman from California and is the majority leader in the House of Representatives. He serves California's 23rd district, which spans Kern, Tulare, and Los Angeles counties. McCarthy's professional career began with his successful sandwich shop, Kevin O's. As he grew his business, he learned that the margins are thin, the hours are long, and that often Sacramento and Washington are obstacles, not facilitators, to success. This experience compelled McCarthy to enter public service. Today, as House majority leader, he is leading an initiative to spur innovation in the private sector and apply new technologies to government. McCarthy holds a bachelor's degree and an M.B.A. from California State University, Bakersfield.
