Karen Dunn Kelley was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce on November 28, 2018. Deputy Secretary Kelley is the Department’s chief operations officer and day-to-day manager of a budget of $11.4 billion, 12 operating units, and 47,000 employees. She is the principal deputy to the Secretary of Commerce and a member of the President’s Management Council. Prior to her confirmation as Deputy Secretary, Ms. Kelley served as the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, overseeing the Department’s statistical programs through the U.S. Bureau of the Census and the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Before joining the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Kelley served as Senior Managing Director of Investments at Invesco, a U.S. based investment firm that manages more than $800 billion in assets worldwide. She was a member of the Women's Bond Club of New York and a founding member of the Invesco Women's Network. Deputy Secretary Kelley holds a B.S. Degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Villanova University, College of Commerce and Finance. She is married to Dr. Joseph L. Kelley, a pediatrician.  The couple have been married 31 years and have three children.
