Anita Gupta

Dr. Anita Gupta is an appointed faculty member at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, World Economic Forum medical expert, and a well-recognized international expert on drugs, pain, healthcare, and anesthesiology. Gupta leads on patient-centric innovation and breakthrough initiatives. She has engaged with and advised strategic stakeholders from government, academia, healthcare systems and corporations to combat the COVID-19, emerging threats, and the opioid crisis. Focused on improving healthcare and pain care for patients, Gupta was responsible for a wide range of initiatives and programs: development and implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) tool for safe perioperative communication in health care systems and advocating for the expansion of the opioid antidote at the US Food and Drug Administration, among others. She has served in the healthcare system in the public and private sectors as a COO, SVP, Vice Chair, and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania where she completed the Total Leadership Program at the Wharton School of Business. Gupta has served as a US FDA advisor and invited speaker on patient advocacy at the National Organization of Rare Diseases and the National Academies of Medicine. Gupta has served as the Co-Chair of American Society of Anesthesiologists Task Force on Prescription Opioid Abuse. In recognition of her service and work, Gupta has been the named a Distinguished Scholar of the National Academies of Practice, Top 10 Women of Influence Fierce Healthcare, Top 100 Inspirational Leaders by PharmaVoice, Top 10 Global Emerging Leader by Pharma Executives, She was awarded Philadelphia's Top in Healthcare and the Learner Award from American Association of Medical Colleges. Gupta is an alumna of Princeton University School of Policy and International Affairs (MPP, HHP), Harvard Business School (GMP), Rutgers University (BS, PharmD) and Rowan/UMDNJ (DO).
