Rick Klein is the Political Director for ABC News. 

Klein provides analysis for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms, including “This Week,” “World News Tonight,” “Good Morning America,” ABC News Radio, and network affiliates. He is the primary ABC correspondent on live maps for election nights, and has a regular “This Week” segment called “The Breakdown.”

He has interviewed a wide range of figures in politics and beyond, including Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, John McCain, Ken Burns, Tom Hanks, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He was a key member of the editorial team that has produced more than a dozen primary debates in addition to the 2012 vice-presidential debate, and the 2016 town-hall-style presidential debate.

Rick Klein previously served as ABC’s Senior Washington editor for “World News with Diane Sawyer.” He co-anchored the network’s digital coverage of 2008 alongside Sam Donaldson, and co-hosted “Top Line,” a Yahoo! News video series. Klein was also the longtime author of The Note. He has co-hosted two podcasts, “Powerhouse Politics” with Jonathan Karl, and “Capital Games” with ESPN’s Andy Katz.

Klein joined ABC News in 2007 from The Boston Globe, he previously worked at The Dallas Morning News.

A native of Long Island, Klein graduated with a degree in politics from Princeton University, where he served as editor-in-chief of The Daily Princetonian. He lives in Washington with his wife and two sons. An avid baseball-card collector, he was included as a subject in Topps’ 2016 Allen & Ginter release.
