Banking expert Gerard Caprio, Jr. joins Milken Institute’s Center for Financial Markets

WASHINGTON – The Milken Institute today announced that Gerard Caprio, Jr. has joined its Washington-based Center for Financial Markets (CFM) as a senior fellow focused on global banking and financial regulation.

Caprio’s distinguished career spans the worlds of academia, government, international financial institutions, and the private sector. He is the William Brough Professor of Economics at Williams College and chair of the College’s Center for Development Economics. From 1988 to 2005 he served in a number of senior roles at The World Bank, including director of its Financial Sector Operations and Policy Department and the head of its Financial Sector Research Group. Caprio is the co-editor of the Journal of Financial Stability and the author or co-author of numerous books and research papers. He has co-authored several works with other Milken Institute senior fellows and is a founding contributor to CFM’s www.globalbanking.org platform.

“I am excited to welcome Jerry as a senior fellow to the Center for Financial Markets” said Staci Warden, CFM’s executive director. “I look forward not only to his individual contributions but also to his guidance in shaping our overall work programs both in understanding banking policies and regulation around the world, and in exploring practical policy solutions to strengthen developing country capital markets.”

“I'm delighted to be part of the Institute and to contribute to the policy issues about which I care deeply,” said Caprio. “The Milken Institute combines scholarship with pragmatic policy engagement, and it is uniquely positioned to convene public and private sector leaders together to advance the conversation on the importance of capital markets in development globally.”
