Andrew Friedson, PhD, is the head of research for the Milken Institute Health. He is an economist with expertise in health care and related sectors. Before joining the Milken Institute, he spent over a decade in academia, where he served as an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado Denver, with a secondary appointment at the Colorado School of Public Health. He is the author of the textbook Economics of Healthcare: A Brief Introduction, published by Cambridge University Press and used in classrooms around the country.

Friedson has published peer-reviewed research on health behaviors, markets, and policy in premier journals in economics, public policy, and medicine, including Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Law and Economics, and JAMA Health Forum. His research has been covered in popular press outlets, including The Economist, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Friedson received the Richard Musgrave Prize from the National Tax Association in 2014 and the Excellence in Research Award from the University of Colorado Denver College of Arts and Sciences in 2022. He holds a PhD in economics from Syracuse University.
