Milken Institute Appoints Edward Greissing to Lead Its Public Health Effort

WASHINGTON—The Milken Institute today announced the appointment of Edward Greissing as Executive Director of the Center for Public Health. The Center, based in Washington, D.C., will build upon the Institute's past work in public health and accelerating cures.

Greissing brings more than three decades of leadership experience in healthcare to his new position. He most recently served as Senior Vice President North American Corporate Affairs and Head of North American Government Affairs for Sanofi US. At Sanofi US, Greissing was responsible for programs for Chronic Disease Prevention and Wellness, Health Innovation, Issues Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Partnerships in Patient Health and Health and Economic Policy. His work has been recognized by others in the sector, most recently receiving the American Cancer Society's Donald H. Gemson Cancer Prevention and Public Policy Award.

"Both through our research and our convening, the Milken Institute has become a player in the field of public health," said Institute CEO Mike Klowden. "We are delighted that Ed Greissing has joined us to lead these efforts. Our goal is to bring the same focus to public health that has allowed medical research to extend and enhance lives everywhere."

Institute President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Ditizio added: "Our centers are where the programmatic work of the Milken Institute takes place. With Ed Greissing's appointment, the Center for Public Health has an action-oriented, results-driven leader to spearhead our work in this critical area."

From its founding 25 years ago, the Milken Institute has focused on how improved health is an essential ingredient to greater prosperity. For more than a decade the Institute's FasterCures center, based in Washington, D.C., has worked to save lives by speeding up and improving the medical research system. "Ed's appointment allows us to focus powerfully on both ends of the spectrum, combining new efforts in wellness and prevention with our acclaimed existing work in promoting medical research and cures," said Ditizio.

In recent years, the Institute's increased focus on public health has achieved many results, including:

"I am delighted to be part of the important work of the Milken Institute as we convene the health ecosystem to tackle critical public and population health issues," said Greissing. "This is a special time in healthcare as we work to deliver precision health to all individuals and communities. I believe the solutions-driven approach of the Center for Public Health will help move us away from the present system that treats sickness to a system that engages and empowers patients by rewarding wellness."
