Following the initiative of the International Council of Museums, museums continually redefine their stance in response to social, cultural, and political changes. The definition of museum now admits dialogue, equality, access, participation, and transparency, as reflected in the works shown. Museum management demands entrepreneurship; forward thinking; and opportunities to influence perceptions, opinions, and narratives. No longer limited to acquisition and display, directors and curators must show pioneering leadership, taking responsibility for growth through participation, exchange, and engagement. As custodians of history, power, and knowledge, museums and innovative cultural groups can influence tomorrow's collectors. The time is ripe to engage in debate about new visions and perspectives, exploring ideas around collecting and exhibiting art as well as administrative challenges integral to public museums and the cultural bodies that share missions and values with today's museums.
