When the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement was signed in late 2018, it was hailed as a mutually beneficial update to the NAFTA agreement. Yet the final ratification and subsequent implementation of the agreement remain uncertain. Political challenges in each of the three countries continue to present roadblocks to final ratification. This session will explore the potential consequences of not ratifying the agreement, as well as the role that non-governmental stakeholders from each of the three countries can play in ensuring that the opportunity to bring one of the most consequential trade agreements into the 21st century is not missed.
