This extended private session will pick up where the Disaster Preparedness and Response roundtable at the Milken Institute Future of Health Summit (October 2018 in Washington, DC) left off. It will expand the conversation to incorporate the critical role that philanthropic capital can play in helping communities survive, recover, and rebound from disasters. The session will take advantage of the fact that there are numerous overlapping priorities in preparing for natural disasters and health emergencies, which can contribute to determining the best way to prepare for success in mitigating or preventing long-term public-health impacts.
Disaster preparedness is an age-old challenge that heeds neither borders nor barriers. Two of the Milken Institute's Centers (Public Health and Strategic Philanthropy) have been working with a range of partners to convene a cross-sectoral and multidimensional dialogue on ways to coordinate and optimize resilient response to disasters. In a moderated discussion, invited participants will be asked to define action steps, form working groups, and identify additional partners and potential alliances in the long-term effort to foster a culture of preparedness. We hope you will be able to join us for this important dialogue.
