How Can Philanthropy Address Complex Climate Crises?

-

The Asia-Pacific region faces some of the most severe global climate risks. Projections indicate that the region could lose up to 35 percent of GDP by 2050 due to climate-related stresses such as compromised water resources, unstable food supply and quality, and deteriorating air quality. Philanthropy is well positioned to de-risk the solutions and ensure the collaboration needed to tackle these interconnected issues of climate adaptation. However, philanthropic funding for climate mitigation remains strikingly low, accounting for less than 2 percent of global giving. As the urgency and complexity of climate crises intensify, momentum is growing to leverage philanthropy as a catalyst for innovation and action. How are bold new philanthropic funding and partnership models helping to prevent ecological, economic, and social collapse? And what are the structural barriers that continue to prevent such efforts from achieving their full impact?
