Future of Health Summit 2019

Solving the Affordability/Innovation Conundrum (Invite only)

In this private session, participants will discuss one of today's most significant health-care debates: Will proposals to improve affordability and access to medicines and related health care have a negative long-term impact on innovation? There is agreement that patients need and deserve access to medicines that can prevent, treat, and even cure the conditions that affect them. It's also clear that innovation is essential to medical progress; stopping science in its tracks is not acceptable. One key question is whether currently discussed approaches—including price controls, caps, and limits on the protection of intellectual property—can appropriately balance these essential components. To lay the groundwork for this and future discussions, individuals and organizations of varying perspectives will be invited to offer their views and make recommendations for approaches to achieve that balance. Members of the press will not be invited to this session, and no comments will be attributed to any individuals or organizations.
