James Barrese
James Barrese joined Intuit as senior vice president of FinTech in September 2023. He heads an organization comprising product and development teams that aim to fuel prosperity globally for small businesses and the self-employed by leveraging the power of millions of customers to support the prosperity of each individual.
With more than 30 years of technology experience spanning banking, commerce, payments, the military, academia, business consulting, enterprise platforms, and infrastructure, Barrese brings broad experience in digital transformation, financial systems, high-performance processing systems, security, infrastructure, and development of innovative product solutions for consumers and businesses that are critical to his role.
Prior to joining Intuit, he served as chief technology officer (CTO) of Chime, a FinTech company founded on the premise that basic banking services should be helpful, easy, and free. He has also held significant leadership positions, including PayPal's global CTO and senior vice president of the payment services business, and vice president of technology at eBay. At eBay, he led several strategic technology initiatives, including the delivery of open platforms, the creation of infrastructure services, system software, and third-party developer ecosystems; enterprise analytics; and overall site operations supporting the world’s largest marketplace at scale.
Barrese earned a bachelor of science degree from Stanford University and is based in Silicon Valley. He also served in the US Army and currently serves as an independent director of Visteon, a leading automotive technology company delivering next-generation digital cockpits and electronic control systems for the world’s top automobile manufacturers.
