Coinciding with the Bureau’s Consumer Financial Protection week, this event will focus on how the Bureau is protecting consumers in the financial marketplace, the issues consumers are confronting, as well as informing consumers how they can communicate to the Bureau any issues that they may have with a financial services provider. These topics are particularly compelling in the face of unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Director Kraninger will also deliver prepared remarks during the presentation.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is an independent Federal agency established under the Dodd-Frank Act to create a single point of accountability in the Federal government for consumer financial protection. In carrying out its mission, the Bureau conducts rule-making, supervision, and enforcement with respect to the Federal consumer financial laws; handles consumer complaints and inquiries; promotes financial education; researches consumer behavior; and monitors financial markets for risks to consumers. Director Kraninger was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in December 2018, following a career in government service including roles in the Office of Management and Budget, Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Senate.
