Strategic Philanthropy Around the World

-

From ubuntu in Southern Africa to sadaka enriching Swahili, to zakat and tzedaka among related terms for the same benefit in the cultures of the Near and Middle East, philanthropy around the world is anything but one-size-fits-all. The motivation to give depends on any number of stimuli—whether trust in government and institutions or tax structures that may, or may not, encourage charitable giving. Our panel will examine regional and cultural trends, including "go giving" by those who would rather contribute their time along with their treasure, and how open—or cautious—people are about giving publicly depending on where they stand in the world.
