Africa has the fastest growing, youngest population of any continent, and for this rising population set, it is second nature to turn to technology to solve the continent’s most pressing problems. Moreover, the wealth of free online coding boot camps, robotics lessons, and lectures is having a big impact, inspiring careers and seeding ideas for start-ups across Africa. According to ILO’s Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Africa, “...Africa is the only region where the youth bulge will continue to grow … presenting both an opportunity to reap the demographic dividend and an imminent …threat to social cohesion as well as massive migration in search of opportunities if appropriate policies are not implemented to harness the dividend.” With grit, resilience, creativity, and passion, Africa’s youth embraces the challenge to move their continent forward and create a better tomorrow collectively. How can the global community—policymakers, investors, corporates, and consumers—help enable this spirit for everyone’s benefit?
