Decades of advocacy have paid off with wins in equality for the LGBTQ+ community, but barriers remain, particularly economic challenges. Poverty rates are high and wage gaps wide for LGBTQ+ workers, who make 90 cents on the dollar of typical US workers. LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs are less able to access capital for business growth. How can public and private stakeholders join to improve economic outcomes for the LGBTQ+ community? This private session will explore ways to widen access to education and training, workplace equality, and a level playing field for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. Solutions such as LGBTQ+-focused scholarships, fellowships, and mentoring can boost career trajectories, but what is the most effective way to address equity in corporate pay and benefits? Diversity riders in venture capital can improve funding access for businesses, but can they scale?
