Asia Summit 2024

Blending Philanthropy into Climate Action and Innovation (Invite only)

-

Countries in the Asia-Pacific region are at risk of losing 35 percent of GDP by 2050 from the effects of climate change and natural disasters. However, funding of mitigation initiatives remains less than 2 percent of global philanthropic giving annually—and only a small portion of it goes to Asia, despite Asia being pivotal to global climate goals. There is a growing interest in using philanthropy as a spur to find innovative solutions to drive progress on climate change and the destruction of nature. How are philanthropists and philanthropic organizations using this opportunity? Is there a need for a more diverse ecosystem of giving modalities and advisory models to address climate issues? What are the main obstacles preventing philanthropy from achieving its potential as a force for mitigating climate change?
