Asian countries jointly captured more than 40 percent of global foreign direct investment in 2023. With strong financial institutions and low business constraints, East Asia and the Pacific is a leading region in terms of attractiveness to investors, with many of its emerging and developing countries attracting significant attention among investors and businesses. Business perceptions and financial environments, however, vary widely across the region. Today’s supply-chain fragmentation and localization trends are also cause for reflection on the shifting economic fundamentals of trade that are affecting capital flows and growth prospects for emerging and advanced economies alike.
