Aging Forward at the SXSW Cities Summit

On March 12-13, SXSW hosted their first Cities Summit in Austin- “an opportunity for civic leaders and creative urbanists of all disciplines to join together to learn, strategize and form coalitions to transform the cities of tomorrow.” I had the privilege of moderating a panel there- Cities As Incubators for Successful Aging - alongside futurist Dr. James Cantonand Dr. Jacqueline Angel of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. What’s more, aging was the focus of three panels throughout the SXSW programming, signaling a growing recognition across generations of this dynamic global trend. In front of a packed audience, including four sitting mayors, the session applied futurist concepts and an intersectional lens to imagine environments that harness the longevity dividend.
