What is the Milken Institute?
The Milken Institute is a publicly supported, nonpartisan, independent think tank whose work makes a difference in the lives of people worldwide by helping create a more democratic and efficient global economy.

What type of research does it do?
We use capital-market principles and financial innovations to address social and economic challenges, from energy and job creation to health and poverty, in the United States and around the world. We conduct research and make recommendations to solve real-world challenges.

What are your principal areas of research?
The Milken Institute employs financial innovation in the pursuit of global prosperity and focuses on economic analysis and recommendations. Our work is organized under the specialized research centers below:

Where can I get a copy of your research reports, slides, audio, etc?
Most Milken Institute research and multimedia content is available for free download on our website after you complete a simple login, either under publications or in our multimedia section. Some content is reserved for conference attendees only, and some is available for purchase. Hard copies of our research reports and other written material can be bought online on our publications page.

What events do you have, and are they open to the public?
The Milken Institute hosts a variety of conferences, workshops and forums at the Institute, throughout the U.S. and around the globe. Events are posted on our website calendar. Many of our events are open to the public, but some are exclusively for Milken Institute Associates or are by invitation only.

Our largest events are our conferences. Every year, the Milken Institute offers an unprecedented opportunity to examine global issues among the top thinkers and decision-makers in the world at our Global Conference and brings California's thought leaders together for the premier policy conference at our State of the State Conference.

How long has the Milken Institute been in existence?
The Institute was founded in the early 1990s as the Milken Institute for Job and Capital Formation by philanthropist and financier Michael Milken and his brother, Lowell Milken. Its initial focus on the interaction between education and job growth has expanded to include many other issues that are increasingly relevant in a global economy.

Who runs the Milken Institute?
The Milken Institute is headed by Michael Klowden, President and CEO. Michael Milken is Chairman and guides the vision and overall goals of the Institute. Senior staff members direct the research centers of the Institute.

How many people does the Milken Institute employ?
Close to 50 people work at the Milken Institute. They are economists, senior fellows, analysts and support staff. About a dozen more staff and program personnel work at FasterCures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions, in Washington, D.C.

How is the Milken Institute funded?
As a nonprofit, publicly supported organization, the Milken Institute relies on contributions, grants and sponsorships from individuals, corporations, foundations and government entities to support our important work. What are the Milken Institute's political affiliations?
The Milken Institute is an independent, nonpartisan, non-ideological entity. It has no political affiliations and supports no political agenda.

Who is the audience of the Milken Institute and its materials?
Our work is geared toward people in business, finance, public policy, foundations and academia. Our work is useful to senior executives at major corporations and financial institutions; institutional investors; small-business owners in emerging domestic markets; economic development officials and other government leaders; economists in both the public and private sectors; academics in the schools of business, economics, finance and public policy; editors and reporters from the world's business and financial press and major broadcast, online and print news media; and other decision-makers in the media, law and public policy.

What is the Milken Institute Review and how do I get a subscription?
We also publish an economic policy quarterly, The Milken Institute Review. A dazzling array of experts, ranging from Paul Krugman to Ben Bernanke to Gary Becker to Jeff Sachs, have written for the magazine since the first issue in 1999. It is available for free download (after login) or you can order a subscription here.

What is the Institute's relationship with the Milken Family Foundation?
